Olivia Stowell

Keep, Meaning

this morning my timeline asks me
how did you come to poetry

i keep meaning to answer
in a way that suits the question

how did you come                      in what way
                                                       through what means

by what way did you encounter
poetry                                           something there-already
                                                       making you come like gravity
                                                       how did you come

to poetry i think i am one
speck of dust in its expanding
universe, i am one cell radiating
out from its bang, and not even
the brightest, meaning              there are other poets
                                                       more dark and tender suns
                                                       other specks become planets

and yet i keep coming
back to poetry and
i keep meaning in
poetry and i keep poetry

how did you come to poetry    how did it make you its own
when did you feel a becoming
what in living are you keeping

i came to poetry
in many small
unspoken explosions
i do and do not want
to name

and this is the way i
keep meaning                            collect and
                                                      continue.
